  • The Bovine IL-6 (Interleukin-6) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of bovine IL-6 in cell culture supernatants. With minor modifications to the assay procedure, this ELISA may also be used to measure IL-6 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, whole blood, peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) culture supernatants, tissue homogenates or lysates, milk, colostrum, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), synovial fluid, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), depending on the experimental model and disease context. This flexibility supports a wide range of immunology and translational research applications. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine that plays a key role in immune regulation, inflammation, and hematopoiesis. Produced primarily by monocytes, macrophages, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells, IL-6 mediates acute-phase responses, B-cell differentiation, T-cell activation, and inflammatory signaling. Measurement of IL-6 is widely used to assess immune activation, inflammatory responses, infection progression, and vaccine efficacy in both experimental and clinical bovine models. In bovine and related species, IL-6 serves as an important biomarker of systemic inflammation and immune response, supporting studies in animal health, comparative immunology, and translational research. The bovine IL-6 protein is 100% homologous to Banteng (Bos javanicus) and Zebu (Bos indicus) IL-6, making this ELISA well suited for studies involving these species and closely related animals where sequence identity supports cross-species detection. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant protein standard for assay development. These antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. Optimal buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and assay conditions have not been predetermined, allowing researchers to optimize assay sensitivity and dynamic range based on their specific sample type and experimental requirements. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

  • Bovine Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional pro-inflammatory cytokine and a central member of the IL-6 cytokine family, which includes IL-6, IL-11, IL-27, IL-31, leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), oncostatin M (OSM), ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1), and cardiotrophin-like cytokine factor 1 (CLCF1), all of which signal through receptor complexes utilizing the shared gp130 subunit. In cattle (Bos taurus), IL-6 plays a critical role in regulating acute-phase protein synthesis (including haptoglobin and serum amyloid A), B- and T-cell differentiation, hematopoiesis, and systemic inflammatory responses via the IL-6R/gp130-mediated JAK/STAT pathway. It is a key mediator in economically significant diseases such as bovine respiratory disease (BRD), mastitis, metritis, Johne's disease, and other bacterial and viral infections, where elevated IL-6 levels correlate with fever, tissue inflammation, and disease severity. As a biomarker, bovine IL-6 is widely used to assess immune activation, monitor herd health, and evaluate vaccine efficacy or therapeutic interventions. In animal model and translational research, characterization of bovine IL-6 and related family members supports studies of host-pathogen interactions, inflammatory regulation in large-animal systems, comparative immunology, and the development of immunomodulatory strategies to improve livestock health, productivity, and welfare.
