  • The Equine CCL2 (Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1, MCP-1) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of equine CCL2 in cell culture supernatants. With minor modifications to the assay procedure, this ELISA may also be used to measure CCL2 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, synovial fluid, and tissue homogenates or lysates, depending on the experimental model and physiological context. This flexibility supports a wide range of immunology and translational research applications. Reported measurements: Equine CCL2 has been detected in serum (~50-600 pg/mL), plasma (~40-500 pg/mL), synovial fluid (~100-800 pg/mL), and PBMC culture supernatants (~100-1200 pg/mL under stimulation conditions), although levels vary depending on immune activation, infection, or experimental treatment. Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 (CCL2) is a chemokine primarily produced by monocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts. It plays a central role in recruiting monocytes, memory T cells, and dendritic cells to sites of inflammation, mediating immune responses and tissue remodeling. Measurement of CCL2 is widely used to assess inflammatory signaling, immune cell recruitment, and disease progression in horses and related species. CCL2 serves as an important biomarker of immune activation, inflammatory conditions, and tissue response to injury or infection, supporting studies in equine immunology, comparative immunology, and translational research. Why measure Equine CCL2: Measuring CCL2 provides critical insight into monocyte recruitment, inflammation, and immune system activation. Quantifying CCL2 helps evaluate disease progression, vaccine responses, and immunomodulatory treatments, making it a valuable tool for both fundamental and applied equine immunology research. CCL2 is a member of the CC chemokine family, which also includes CCL3, CCL4, and CCL5, all of which contribute to immune cell trafficking and inflammatory responses. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant protein standard for assay development. These antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. Optimal buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and assay conditions have not been predetermined, allowing researchers to optimize assay sensitivity and dynamic range based on their specific sample type and experimental requirements. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

Equine CCL2 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 2, also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, MCP-1) is a pro-inflammatory chemokine that plays a key role in recruitment and activation of monocytes, macrophages, and memory T cells during immune responses in horses (Equus caballus). CCL2 signals primarily through the CCR2 receptor, activating intracellular pathways that promote leukocyte migration, cytokine production, and coordination of innate and adaptive immune responses at sites of infection, inflammation, or tissue injury. In equine health, CCL2 is particularly important in inflammatory conditions such as equine asthma (recurrent airway obstruction), osteoarthritis, laminitis, and infectious diseases, where monocyte and macrophage recruitment contributes to tissue inflammation and repair. CCL2-mediated signaling also plays a role in joint inflammation by promoting infiltration of immune cells into synovial tissues during degenerative joint disease. While CCL2-driven immune cell trafficking is essential for pathogen defense and wound healing, excessive or chronic expression can contribute to persistent inflammation and tissue damage. As a biomarker of monocyte/macrophage recruitment and inflammatory activation, equine CCL2 is widely studied in investigations of respiratory disease, musculoskeletal injury, and immune responses to infection. Characterization of equine CCL2 supports veterinary research into inflammatory disease mechanisms, host–pathogen interactions, and development of targeted therapies to improve equine health and performance.
