  • The Rabbit CCL4 (MIP-1β) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of rabbit CCL4 in cell culture supernatants. With minor modifications to the assay procedure, this ELISA can also be used to measure CCL4 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, and tissue lysates, providing flexibility for a wide range of immunology, inflammation, and translational research applications. CCL4 is a pro-inflammatory chemokine produced primarily by activated macrophages, dendritic cells, and T cells, and plays a key role in immune cell recruitment and activation. Through signaling via CCR5, CCL4 mediates the migration of monocytes, NK cells, and T lymphocytes to sites of inflammation and infection. In rabbit models, CCL4 is commonly studied in the context of infectious disease, vaccine response, inflammatory disorders, and immune activation, where its expression reflects innate and adaptive immune engagement. Measurement of CCL4 provides valuable insight into leukocyte trafficking, inflammatory signaling, and immune response magnitude. Reported measurements of rabbit CCL4 have detected low picogram per milliliter concentrations in serum and plasma under basal conditions, with markedly increased levels following immune stimulation, infection, or inflammatory challenge. Elevated CCL4 expression has also been measured in tissue lysates from inflamed organs, supporting its role as a localized marker of immune activation. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant protein standard for assay development. These antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. Optimal buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and assay conditions have not been predetermined, allowing researchers to optimize sensitivity and dynamic range based on their specific sample type and experimental requirements. Rabbit CCL4 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 4, also known as MIP-1β, macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta) is a pro-inflammatory chemokine that regulates recruitment and activation of immune cells during inflammatory and infectious responses in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus). CCL4 primarily signals through the CCR5 receptor, promoting chemotaxis of monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, natural killer (NK) cells, and activated T lymphocytes to sites of infection, inflammation, or tissue injury. In rabbits, CCL4 is produced by activated macrophages, dendritic cells, epithelial cells, and lymphocytes in response to inflammatory stimuli such as microbial components and cytokines including TNF-α and IL-1β. CCL4-mediated immune cell recruitment contributes to host defense in bacterial and viral infections, as well as inflammatory responses associated with tissue injury. In rabbit research, CCL4 is particularly relevant in models of inflammatory disease, infectious disease, and cardiovascular research such as atherosclerosis, where chemokine-driven immune cell infiltration influences vascular inflammation and disease progression. While CCL4-mediated leukocyte trafficking supports pathogen clearance and immune activation, excessive or prolonged expression may contribute to chronic inflammation and tissue damage. As a regulator of leukocyte migration and inflammatory signaling, rabbit CCL4 supports studies of host–pathogen interactions, immune regulation, and inflammatory mechanisms relevant to both veterinary health and comparative biomedical research.
