  • The Rabbit IL-8 (Interleukin-8, CXCL8) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of rabbit IL-8 in cell culture supernatants and can also be used to measure IL-8 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, tissue lysates, and inflammatory exudates, providing flexibility for a broad range of immunology, inflammation, and translational research applications. IL-8 is a potent pro-inflammatory chemokine primarily produced by macrophages, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells, and it functions as a key mediator of neutrophil chemotaxis and activation, promoting the recruitment of neutrophils to sites of infection, tissue injury, or inflammation. In rabbit models, IL-8 is widely studied in the context of infectious disease, acute inflammation, immune activation, and tissue injury, where its expression reflects innate immune responses and inflammatory signaling. Measurement of IL-8 provides valuable insight into leukocyte trafficking, inflammation severity, and the efficacy of immunomodulatory interventions. Reported measurements of rabbit IL-8 have detected low to moderate picogram per milliliter concentrations in serum and plasma under basal conditions, with markedly elevated levels observed following immune stimulation, infection, or inflammatory challenge, and IL-8 has also been measured in tissue lysates and localized samples from inflamed organs, reflecting its role as a central chemokine in neutrophil recruitment and inflammation. Rabbit Interleukin-8 (IL-8), also known as CXCL8, is a potent pro-inflammatory chemokine that plays a central role in innate immune responses in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) by mediating neutrophil chemotaxis, activation, and recruitment to sites of infection or tissue injury. Produced by macrophages, epithelial cells, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts in response to microbial products and inflammatory cytokines, rabbit IL-8 signals primarily through CXCR1 and CXCR2 receptors to promote rapid neutrophil migration and amplification of local inflammatory responses. Elevated IL-8 expression is observed in bacterial infections such as Pasteurella multocida, viral diseases including rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV), and in models of pulmonary inflammation, wound healing, and arthritis, where neutrophil-driven inflammation contributes to both pathogen clearance and tissue pathology. As a biomarker, IL-8 is useful for assessing inflammatory status and disease progression in laboratory and veterinary settings.
