  • The Feline CXCL10 (C-X-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 10, also known as IP-10) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of CXCL10 in cell culture supernatants from cats and can also be used to measure CXCL10 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, and tissue lysates, supporting a wide range of immunology, inflammation, and translational research applications. CXCL10 is a chemokine primarily produced by monocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts in response to interferon-γ stimulation, and it plays a central role in chemoattraction of activated T cells, NK cells, and monocytes, as well as regulation of immune responses during infection and inflammation. In the feline model, CXCL10 is widely studied in the context of viral and bacterial infections, autoimmune disorders, and inflammatory diseases, where its expression reflects immune cell recruitment and inflammatory signaling. Measurement of CXCL10 provides valuable insight into immune activation, disease progression, and the efficacy of immunomodulatory interventions. Feline CXCL10 is homologous to Panthera leo (lion), Panthera tigris altaica (Amur tiger), Panthera pardus (leopard), Panthera uncia (snow leopard), Puma concolor (puma), Acinonyx jubatus (cheetah), Lynx canadensis (Canada lynx), and Lynx pardinus (Spanish lynx), which is important for cross-species studies, comparative immunology, and translational research, allowing assays developed for domestic cats to reliably detect and quantify CXCL10 in these related wild felids. Reported measurements of feline CXCL10 have detected basal serum and plasma levels of approximately 40-350 pg/mL, with elevated levels-often 400-2,200 pg/mL-following immune stimulation, infection, or inflammatory challenge, and measurable expression has also been observed in tissue lysates from inflamed or immune-activated organs. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant protein standard for assay development, and these antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. Optimal buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and assay conditions have not been predetermined, allowing researchers to optimize assay sensitivity and dynamic range based on their specific sample type and experimental requirements. Feline CXCL10 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10), also known as IP-10 (Interferon gamma–induced protein 10), is a proinflammatory chemokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family, which also includes CXCL9 (MIG) and CXCL11 (I-TAC) that regulate T-cell recruitment during antiviral and inflammatory immune responses. In cats (Felis catus), CXCL10 is produced by macrophages, dendritic cells, epithelial cells, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts in response to interferon-γ (IFN-γ), viral infection, or inflammatory cytokines. CXCL10 signals primarily through the chemokine receptor CXCR3, which is expressed on activated T lymphocytes, natural killer (NK) cells, and other immune cells, promoting chemotaxis and activation of these cells at sites of infection or inflammation. In feline health, CXCL10 is involved in immune responses to viral infections such as feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV), where interferon-driven chemokine signaling helps recruit antiviral immune cells to infected tissues. Cats also serve as important comparative animal models for human viral and immune-mediated diseases; for example, FIV infection in cats is widely used as a model for human HIV/AIDS, where CXCL10-mediated recruitment of CXCR3⁺ T cells contributes to immune activation and viral pathogenesis. In addition, feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) caused by feline coronavirus is used as a model for severe immune-mediated viral inflammation, where CXCL10 expression is associated with T-cell infiltration and cytokine-driven pathology, making feline CXCL10 relevant for studies of antiviral immunity, immune dysregulation, and inflammatory disease mechanisms.
