  • The Rabbit IL-13 (Interleukin-13) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of IL-13 in cell culture supernatants from rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and can also be used to measure IL-13 in a variety of biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, whole blood, and tissue lysates from organs such as spleen, lung, lymph nodes, and intestine. While the kit is optimized for cell culture supernatants, minor modifications to the protocol may be required when measuring IL-13 in other sample types to ensure optimal sensitivity and accuracy, allowing researchers to adjust buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and other assay conditions as needed. IL-13 is a Th2-type cytokine produced primarily by activated T helper cells, innate lymphoid cells, and mast cells and plays a central role in immune regulation, allergic responses, and mucosal immunity. In the rabbit animal model, IL-13 is widely studied in the context of allergic inflammation, parasitic infection, respiratory disease, and immunomodulatory research, where its expression reflects Th2-mediated immune responses. Measurement of IL-13 provides valuable insight into immune activation, cytokine signaling, disease progression, and the efficacy of therapeutic or vaccine interventions, with reported levels in rabbits typically detected at low picogram-per-milliliter concentrations under basal conditions (~20-150 pg/mL in serum or plasma) and increasing during immune challenge, infection, or inflammatory stimulation, depending on sample type and experimental context. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant rabbit IL-13 protein standard for assay development, and these antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

Rabbit Interleukin-13 (IL-13) is a Th2-associated cytokine produced primarily by activated CD4⁺ T helper 2 (Th2) cells and other type 2 immune populations in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus), where it plays a central role in regulating allergic inflammation, mucosal immunity, and tissue remodeling. IL-13 signals through receptor complexes composed of IL-13Rα1 and IL-4Rα, activating JAK/STAT6 pathways that promote alternative (M2) macrophage activation, IgE-associated responses, mucus production, and modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokine signaling. In rabbit health, IL-13 is particularly relevant in parasitic infections, allergic skin disease, and respiratory inflammation, where Th2 polarization contributes to eosinophilic infiltration and tissue repair but may also promote chronic inflammation or fibrosis if dysregulated. Rabbits are widely used as models for asthma, pulmonary inflammation, atherosclerosis, and ocular inflammatory disease, and IL-13 plays a key role in experimental airway hyperresponsiveness and mucus hypersecretion models. As both a biomarker and functional mediator of type 2 immune responses, rabbit IL-13 supports studies of Th1/Th2 immune balance, cytokine-driven tissue remodeling, and development of targeted anti-cytokine therapies relevant to human allergic and fibrotic diseases.
