The Rabbit SCF (Stem Cell Factor, also known as c-Kit Ligand) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of SCF in cell culture supernatants from rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and can also be used to measure SCF in a variety of biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, bone marrow aspirates, and tissue lysates from organs such as spleen, liver, and thymus. While the kit is optimized for cell culture supernatants, minor modifications to the protocol may be required when measuring SCF in other sample types to ensure optimal sensitivity and accuracy, allowing researchers to adjust buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and other assay conditions as needed. SCF is a growth factor primarily produced by stromal cells, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells, and it plays a central role in hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, mast cell development, and proliferation of progenitor cells. In the rabbit animal model, SCF is widely studied in the context of hematopoietic research, stem cell biology, immunology, and tissue regeneration, where its expression reflects progenitor cell activity and growth factor signaling. Rabbit Stem Cell Factor (SCF) (also known as KIT ligand, KITLG, mast cell growth factor, or steel factor) is a cytokine and growth factor that regulates hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, and immune cell development in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus). SCF belongs to a group of hematopoietic growth factors that control the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of stem and progenitor cells. It functions by binding to the c-Kit receptor (CD117), a receptor tyrosine kinase expressed on hematopoietic stem cells, mast cells, melanocytes, and germ cells, activating intracellular signaling pathways including PI3K/AKT, MAPK, and JAK/STAT that regulate cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation. In rabbits, SCF is produced by bone marrow stromal cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells, and exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms, allowing both localized and systemic regulation of c-Kit–expressing cells.
