  • The Dolphin CCL2 (MCP-1) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of CCL2 in cell culture supernatants from dolphins (family Delphinidae) and can also be used to measure CCL2 in a variety of biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, whole blood, and tissue lysates from organs such as lung, liver, spleen, lymph nodes, and immune-relevant tissues. While the assay is optimized for cell culture supernatants, minor modifications to the protocol may be required when measuring CCL2 in other sample types to ensure optimal sensitivity and accuracy, allowing researchers to adjust buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and other assay conditions as needed. CCL2 is a chemokine produced primarily by monocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and epithelial cells and plays a central role in monocyte recruitment, macrophage activation, leukocyte trafficking, and inflammatory signaling. In dolphin animal health and marine mammal research, CCL2 is an important biomarker for evaluating immune activation, inflammatory disease, infectious disease responses, environmental stress, pollutant exposure, and overall immune system health, making it highly relevant for both clinical veterinary assessment and conservation biology. Measurement of dolphin CCL2 provides valuable insight into chemokine-mediated immune pathways, disease progression, and host response to environmental and pathogenic challenges, with reported levels typically detected at low picogram-per-milliliter concentrations under basal conditions and increasing during infection, inflammation, or immune activation, depending on sample type and physiological state. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant dolphin CCL2 protein standard for assay development, and these antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

Dolphin CCL2 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 2, also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, MCP-1) is a pro-inflammatory chemokine that regulates recruitment and activation of monocytes, macrophages, and memory T cells during immune responses in dolphins, particularly the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus). CCL2 primarily signals through the CCR2 receptor, activating intracellular pathways that promote leukocyte migration, cytokine production, and coordination of innate and adaptive immune responses at sites of infection, inflammation, or tissue injury. In dolphin health, CCL2 is believed to play an important role in inflammatory responses associated with respiratory infections, skin lesions, parasitic disease, and wound healing, where monocyte and macrophage recruitment contributes to pathogen clearance and tissue repair. Dysregulated or prolonged CCL2 expression may contribute to chronic inflammatory conditions or fibrosis, especially in animals exposed to environmental stressors such as pollutants, harmful algal toxins, or infectious outbreaks. Because dolphins are considered sentinel species for marine ecosystem health, CCL2 expression is an important biomarker for studying immune activation, environmental immunotoxicology, and host–pathogen interactions in marine mammals. Characterization of dolphin CCL2 therefore supports research into chemokine-mediated immune regulation, marine wildlife health, and comparative inflammatory biology across mammalian species.
