  • The Feline IL-17A ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of interleukin-17A (IL-17A) in feline (cat) cell culture supernatants and can also be used to measure IL-17A in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, and tissue lysates, with minor protocol modifications recommended to optimize performance across different matrices. IL-17A is a pro-inflammatory cytokine primarily produced by activated Th17 cells, as well as γδ T cells and innate lymphoid cells, and it plays a central role in host defense against extracellular bacteria and fungi by stimulating epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and other stromal cells to produce chemokines and recruit neutrophils to sites of infection. IL-17A also contributes to chronic inflammatory and autoimmune conditions through amplification of cytokine and chemokine cascades. In healthy cats, circulating IL-17A levels are typically low or near the limit of detection (often <5-10 pg/mL in serum or plasma), but concentrations can increase during infectious diseases, allergic and airway inflammation, immune-mediated disorders, and chronic inflammatory conditions, depending on disease severity and immune status. In veterinary and translational research, feline IL-17A serves as an important biomarker of Th17-mediated immune responses, mucosal immunity, inflammatory bowel disease, dermatologic inflammation, and host-pathogen interactions. The ELISA kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant feline IL-17A protein standard validated for use together in an ELISA format; kit components are not supplied in matched quantities and may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only, not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and is manufactured in the USA.

Feline IL-17A (Interleukin-17A) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine belonging to the IL-17 family that plays an important role in host defense and inflammatory responses in cats (Felis catus). IL-17A is produced primarily by Th17 cells, as well as by γδ T cells and other innate lymphoid populations, in response to microbial infection and inflammatory stimulation. It acts on epithelial, endothelial, and stromal cells to induce expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines (such as CXCL8), and antimicrobial peptides, thereby promoting neutrophil recruitment and enhancing mucosal and barrier immunity. In healthy cats, basal IL-17A expression is typically low, but levels may increase during bacterial or fungal infections, chronic inflammatory conditions, and certain immune-mediated diseases. Elevated IL-17A has been implicated in feline inflammatory bowel disease, chronic gingivostomatitis, asthma, dermatologic inflammation, and possibly tumor-associated inflammation. In veterinary and comparative medicine research, feline IL-17A serves as a biomarker of Th17-mediated immune activation and neutrophilic inflammation, providing insight into mucosal immunity, chronic inflammatory disease pathogenesis, and potential immunomodulatory therapeutic targets in feline health.
