Cynomolgus Monkey (Macaca fascicularis) CXCL7 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 7), also known as NAP-2 (neutrophil-activating peptide 2) or PPBP (pro-platelet basic protein), is a platelet-derived chemokine belonging to the ELR⁺ CXC chemokine family, which includes CXCL1, CXCL2, CXCL3, and CXCL5 that regulate neutrophil recruitment during inflammatory responses. In cynomolgus monkeys, CXCL7 is produced primarily by platelets and megakaryocytes and is released during platelet activation triggered by vascular injury, inflammation, or infection. CXCL7 signals mainly through the chemokine receptor CXCR2, expressed on neutrophils and other innate immune cells, promoting neutrophil chemotaxis, activation, and migration to sites of tissue damage or inflammation. In this species, CXCL7 contributes to the coordination of coagulation and immune responses, influencing platelet–leukocyte interactions, vascular inflammation, and tissue repair. Because cynomolgus monkeys share close genetic, physiological, and immunological similarity with humans, they are widely used as preclinical animal models for cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases. In particular, CXCL7 has been examined in nonhuman primate models of thrombosis and atherosclerosis, where platelet-derived chemokines regulate leukocyte recruitment to vascular endothelium and progression of vascular inflammation, helping researchers evaluate antithrombotic therapies and mechanisms of platelet-mediated immune signaling relevant to human disease.
