  • The Egyptian Fruit Bat CXCL15 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 15) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of CXCL15 in cell culture supernatants from Egyptian fruit bats (Rousettus aegyptiacus) and can also be used to measure CXCL15 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, and tissue lysates, with minor protocol modifications recommended to optimize performance across different matrices. CXCL15 is a CXC chemokine involved in mucosal and pulmonary immune responses and is produced primarily by epithelial cells and innate immune cells in response to inflammatory stimuli and infection, where it contributes to leukocyte recruitment and regulation of local inflammatory signaling. In healthy Egyptian fruit bats, circulating CXCL15 levels are typically low or near the limit of detection, but concentrations may increase during viral infection, respiratory inflammation, tissue injury, or experimental immune stimulation, depending on pathogen exposure and timing of sampling. In bat immunology and emerging infectious disease research, particularly in studies of zoonotic pathogens for which Egyptian fruit bats serve as natural reservoir hosts-including Marburg virus and related filoviruses-CXCL15 serves as an important biomarker of mucosal immune activation, leukocyte trafficking, and host-pathogen interactions. The ELISA kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant Egyptian fruit bat CXCL15 protein standard validated for use together in an ELISA format; kit components are not supplied in matched quantities and may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only, not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and is manufactured in the USA.

Egyptian Rousette Bat (Rousettus aegyptiacus) CXCL15 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 15), also known in some species as lungkine, is a CXC chemokine involved primarily in mucosal immunity and neutrophil recruitment in the respiratory tract. CXCL15 belongs to the CXC chemokine family, which includes chemokines such as CXCL1, CXCL2, and CXCL8 (IL-8) that regulate neutrophil trafficking during inflammatory and innate immune responses. In Egyptian Rousette bats, CXCL15 is likely expressed predominantly by respiratory epithelial cells and other lung-associated tissues, where it contributes to local immune surveillance and recruitment of neutrophils to airway surfaces during infection or inflammation. Egyptian Rousette bats are natural reservoirs for Marburg virus, and chemokines such as CXCL15 may help coordinate early innate immune responses in the respiratory tract, facilitating immune cell recruitment while maintaining controlled inflammatory responses. Studying CXCL15 in this species supports research into bat respiratory immunity and host–pathogen interactions, helping to elucidate mechanisms that allow bats to tolerate viral infections with limited immunopathology, which is important for understanding zoonotic virus ecology and bat immune system adaptations.
