  • The Feline CCL5 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 5, also known as RANTES) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of CCL5 in cat (Felis catus) cell culture supernatants and can also be used to measure CCL5 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), synovial fluid, and tissue lysates, with minor protocol modifications recommended to optimize performance across different matrices. CCL5 is a pro-inflammatory CC chemokine produced primarily by activated T lymphocytes, macrophages, platelets, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells in response to viral infection and inflammatory cytokines, and it functions through chemokine receptors such as CCR1, CCR3, and CCR5 to recruit T cells, monocytes, eosinophils, and NK cells to sites of inflammation. In healthy cats, circulating CCL5 levels are typically low or near the limit of detection, but concentrations can increase during infectious and inflammatory diseases such as feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infection, feline leukemia virus (FeLV) infection, chronic kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), asthma, and neoplastic conditions including lymphoma and mammary carcinoma, depending on disease severity and timing of sampling. Measurement of feline CCL5 provides valuable insight into leukocyte recruitment, antiviral and inflammatory immune responses, tumor-associated immune signaling, and disease progression in veterinary and comparative research settings. The ELISA kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant feline CCL5 protein standard validated for use together in an ELISA format; kit components are not supplied in matched quantities and may be purchased separately. Feline CCL5 (C–C motif chemokine ligand 5, also known as RANTES – Regulated upon Activation, Normal T cell Expressed and Secreted) is a proinflammatory chemokine involved in immune cell recruitment and antiviral immune responses in cats (Felis catus). CCL5 is a member of the CC chemokine family, which includes related chemokines such as CCL3 (MIP-1α), CCL4 (MIP-1β), and CCL2 (MCP-1) that regulate leukocyte trafficking during immune activation. In cats, CCL5 is produced primarily by activated T lymphocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, platelets, and epithelial cells in response to infection, inflammatory stimuli, or tissue injury. It exerts its biological effects mainly through binding to the chemokine receptors CCR1, CCR3, and CCR5, activating intracellular signaling pathways that promote chemotaxis and activation of T cells, monocytes, macrophages, eosinophils, and natural killer (NK) cells at sites of infection or inflammation. In feline health, CCL5 plays an important role in immune responses to viral infections such as feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV), as well as in inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases. Because CCL5 and its receptor CCR5 are involved in regulating antiviral immunity and leukocyte recruitment, feline CCL5 is studied in veterinary immunology, infectious disease research, and inflammatory disease models, helping to improve understanding of chemokine-mediated immune responses in cats.
