  • The Bovine CXCL1 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of CXCL1 in bovine (cattle) cell culture supernatants and can also be used to measure CXCL1 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, milk, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, and tissue lysates, with minor protocol modifications recommended to optimize performance across different matrices. CXCL1 is a pro-inflammatory CXC chemokine produced primarily by monocytes, macrophages, epithelial cells, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts in response to inflammatory cytokines and microbial stimuli, and it functions primarily through the CXCR2 receptor to promote neutrophil chemotaxis, activation, and recruitment to sites of infection or tissue injury. In healthy cattle, circulating CXCL1 levels are typically low or near the limit of detection, but concentrations can increase significantly during mastitis, respiratory disease, enteric infections, endotoxemia, and other acute inflammatory conditions, depending on disease severity and timing of sampling. Measurement of bovine CXCL1 provides valuable insight into neutrophil trafficking, innate immune activation, acute inflammatory responses, and host-pathogen interactions in veterinary and translational research settings. The ELISA kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant bovine CXCL1 protein standard validated for use together in an ELISA format; kit components are not supplied in matched quantities and may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only, not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and is manufactured in the USA.

Bovine CXCL1 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1), also known as GRO-α (growth-regulated oncogene alpha), is a proinflammatory chemokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family, which includes related chemokines such as CXCL2, CXCL3, and CXCL8 (IL-8) that regulate neutrophil recruitment during inflammatory responses. In cattle (Bos taurus), CXCL1 is produced by macrophages, epithelial cells, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and other immune or tissue cells in response to infection, inflammatory cytokines, or tissue injury. CXCL1 exerts its biological effects primarily through binding to the chemokine receptor CXCR2, promoting chemotaxis, activation, and migration of neutrophils to sites of infection or inflammation. In bovine health, CXCL1 plays an important role in innate immune defense, particularly during bacterial infections such as mastitis, where recruitment of neutrophils to the mammary gland is critical for pathogen clearance. CXCL1 is also involved in inflammatory responses associated with bovine respiratory disease and other infectious conditions. Because neutrophil-mediated host defense is essential for protecting cattle against bacterial pathogens, bovine CXCL1 is widely studied in veterinary immunology, mastitis research, and host–pathogen interaction studies, helping to improve understanding of inflammatory signaling and immune responses in livestock.
