  • Dolphin IL-8 (catalog RP0308P) is a yeast-derived chemokine supplied lyophilized without carrier protein in 10% trehalose; it has no affinity tags and is naturally endotoxin-free, and should be reconstituted in sterile PBS that contains at least 0.1% carrier protein. The protein is ~9.2 kDa, 79 amino acids long (full sequence provided), and >98% pure by SDS-PAGE, with 100% amino-acid homology to several cetaceans (common bottlenose dolphin, killer whale, Pacific white-sided dolphin, and long-finned pilot whale). Store at -20°C (stable up to twelve months from date of receipt; working aliquots with carrier protein stable ~3 months) and avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Product origin is the USA. It is commonly used to study chemokine signaling and leukocyte chemoattraction/migration; typical experimental uses include chemotaxis and cell-migration assays, cell-culture stimulation and dosing studies, receptor-binding and signaling studies, ELISA and neutralization assays, flow-cytometry and Western blot controls, and antibody generation/validation. Dolphin Interleukin-8 (IL-8), also known as CXCL8, is a pro-inflammatory chemokine that plays a central role in innate immune responses in dolphins, particularly the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), by promoting neutrophil chemotaxis, activation, and migration to sites of infection or tissue injury. Produced by macrophages, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells in response to microbial stimuli and inflammatory signaling, dolphin IL-8 likely signals through CXCR1- and CXCR2-like receptors to coordinate leukocyte recruitment and amplification of inflammatory responses. Elevated IL-8 expression has been associated with respiratory infections, bacterial and fungal dermatitis, wound healing, and systemic inflammatory conditions in both free-ranging and managed dolphin populations. Because dolphins are long-lived marine mammals exposed to diverse environmental stressors, including pollutants and harmful algal blooms, IL-8 serves as a valuable biomarker of immune activation and inflammatory status in marine health assessments.
