Rabbit interleukin-25 (IL-25), also known as IL-17E, is a member of the IL-17 cytokine family and functions as a promoter of type 2 immune responses through signaling via the IL-17RA/IL-17RB receptor complex, activating downstream NF-κB and MAPK pathways. In rabbits, IL-25 is expected to stimulate Th2-associated cytokine production—including IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13—supporting eosinophil recruitment, IgE-associated responses, and mucosal immunity. It likely plays an important role in protective defense against helminth and parasitic infections, while also contributing to allergic and inflammatory conditions affecting the respiratory tract, skin, and gastrointestinal system. Dysregulated IL-25 signaling may be involved in airway hyperreactivity, dermatitis, and enteric inflammation, paralleling its role in human asthma, atopic dermatitis, and food allergy. Given that rabbits are widely used in immunology, infectious disease, and respiratory research models, rabbit IL-25 serves as a valuable tool for studying type 2–driven immune mechanisms and evaluating therapeutic strategies targeting allergic and inflammatory diseases across species.
