  • Bat CCL11 (Eotaxin) (catalog RP2098BT) is a yeast-derived cytokine supplied lyophilized without carrier protein in 10% trehalose; it contains no affinity tags, is naturally endotoxin-free, and should be reconstituted in sterile PBS with at least 0.1% carrier protein. The protein is ~8.8 kDa, 77 amino acids in length (full sequence provided), and >98% pure by SDS-PAGE, with amino-acid homology to Jamaican fruit-eating bat. It is stable for up to twelve months at -20 °C from receipt, with working aliquots (with carrier protein) stable for ~3 months; avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. The product is manufactured in the USA. It is commonly used to study chemokine-mediated immune responses, particularly eosinophil recruitment, allergic inflammation, and cytokine signaling pathways; typical applications include chemotaxis and cell migration assays, immune cell activation studies, cytokine signaling research, ELISA and neutralization assays, flow cytometry and Western blot controls, and antibody development or validation. Jamaican fruit-eating bat CCL11 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 11), also known as eotaxin-1, is a member of the CC chemokine family that regulates eosinophil recruitment and type 2–associated immune responses in Jamaican fruit-eating bats (Artibeus jamaicensis). CCL11 is produced primarily by epithelial cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and activated immune cells in response to Th2-associated cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-13, and it functions through the CCR3 receptor to promote chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils, as well as certain Th2 lymphocytes and basophils. In healthy A. jamaicensis, basal CCL11 expression is expected to be low, but levels may increase during parasitic infections, allergic-type inflammation, tissue injury, or immune stimulation. As bats exhibit unique immune tolerance to viral infections and serve as reservoirs for multiple zoonotic pathogens, characterization of CCL11 in Jamaican fruit-eating bats is of interest in comparative immunology and emerging infectious disease research, particularly for understanding regulation of Th2-biased immunity, eosinophil biology, and mechanisms that balance pathogen control with limited immunopathology.
