Cynomolgus Monkey EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) is a growth factor peptide belonging to the EGF family of ligands, which also includes transforming growth factor-α (TGF-α), amphiregulin (AREG), heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF), betacellulin (BTC), and epiregulin (EREG) that signal through the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR/ErbB1) to regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue repair. In cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis), EGF is produced by epithelial cells, fibroblasts, macrophages, and glandular tissues such as salivary and gastrointestinal glands, where it plays important roles in epithelial maintenance, wound healing, and tissue regeneration. Binding of EGF to EGFR activates intracellular signaling pathways including MAPK/ERK, PI3K–AKT, and JAK/STAT, promoting cell proliferation, survival, and tissue remodeling following injury or inflammation. Because cynomolgus monkeys share strong genetic, physiological, and immunological similarities with humans, they are widely used as preclinical animal models for dermatology, gastrointestinal biology, and regenerative medicine. In these models, EGF signaling has been studied in nonhuman primate wound healing and tissue repair research, helping to evaluate EGFR-targeted therapies and growth factor–based treatments relevant to human skin regeneration and epithelial repair.
