  • The Chicken IL-16 (Interleukin-16) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of chicken IL-16 in cell culture supernatants. With minor modifications to the assay procedure, this ELISA may also be used to measure IL-16 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) culture supernatants, and tissue homogenates or lysates, depending on the experimental model and physiological context. This flexibility supports a wide range of immunology and translational research applications. Reported measurements: Chicken IL-16 has been detected in serum (~50-400 pg/mL), plasma (~30-350 pg/mL), and PBMC culture supernatants (~100-800 pg/mL under stimulation conditions), although levels vary depending on immune activation, infection, or experimental treatment. Interleukin-16 (IL-16) is a cytokine primarily produced by CD4⁺ T lymphocytes, monocytes, and dendritic cells. It functions as a chemoattractant for CD4⁺ immune cells, modulates T-cell activation, and contributes to immune regulation and inflammation. Measurement of IL-16 is widely used to assess cell-mediated immune responses, T-cell recruitment, and inflammatory signaling in chicken and related species. IL-16 serves as an important biomarker of immune system activation and inflammatory responses, supporting studies in avian immunology, comparative immunology, and translational research. Why measure IL-16: Quantifying IL-16 provides insight into T-cell-mediated immune regulation and chemoattractant activity, making it a valuable tool to evaluate vaccine responses, infection-induced immune activation, and immune modulation in poultry research. IL-16 is part of the broader proinflammatory cytokine family, which includes IL-1, IL-18, and other immune-modulatory cytokines, all contributing to immune cell recruitment, activation, and inflammation. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant protein standard for assay development. These antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. Optimal buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and assay conditions have not been predetermined, allowing researchers to optimize assay sensitivity and dynamic range based on their specific sample type and experimental requirements. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

Chicken Interleukin-16 (IL-16) is a proinflammatory cytokine that plays an important role in regulating immune cell recruitment and activation in chickens (Gallus gallus). IL-16 is produced by several cell types, including T lymphocytes, epithelial cells, and other immune cells, in response to immune stimulation or inflammatory signals. Chicken IL-16 functions primarily as a chemoattractant for CD4⁺ immune cells by interacting with the CD4 receptor, promoting migration and activation of T helper cells, monocytes, and dendritic-like cells to sites of infection or inflammation. Through these actions, IL-16 contributes to coordination of cellular immune responses and regulation of inflammatory signaling pathways. In chickens, IL-16 participates in immune responses against viral, bacterial, and parasitic pathogens and may influence inflammatory processes in tissues such as the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. In cell culture, recombinant chicken IL-16 is used to study chemotactic responses of CD4⁺ immune cells, investigate mechanisms of immune cell recruitment and activation, and evaluate cytokine-mediated regulation of inflammatory pathways. Due to these functions, chicken IL-16 is studied in avian immunology and translational research, including investigations of host–pathogen interactions, vaccine responses, and immune regulation relevant to poultry health and disease resistance.
