  • The Feline VEGF-A (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of feline VEGF-A in cell culture supernatants and can also be used to measure VEGF-A in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, tissue lysates, and conditioned media, supporting a wide range of immunology, angiogenesis, and translational research applications. VEGF-A is a critical growth factor primarily produced by endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells, and it plays a central role in angiogenesis, vascular permeability, endothelial cell proliferation, and tissue repair. In feline models, VEGF-A is widely studied in the context of tumor angiogenesis, wound healing, cardiovascular disease, and inflammatory conditions, where its expression reflects vascular remodeling, tissue regeneration, and pathophysiological angiogenic responses. Measurement of VEGF-A provides valuable insight into angiogenic signaling, disease progression, and therapeutic efficacy. Feline VEGF-A shares 100% sequence homology with Acinonyx jubatus (cheetah), Lynx pardinus (Spanish lynx), Puma concolor (puma), Prionailurus bengalensis (leopard cat), and Leopardus geoffroyi (Geoffroy's cat), supporting precise cross-species studies. Reported measurements of feline VEGF-A have detected basal serum and plasma levels of approximately 25-180 pg/mL, with elevated levels-often 350-1,500 pg/mL-following tissue injury, inflammation, or tumor induction, and measurable expression has also been observed in tissue lysates and conditioned media from VEGF-A-producing cells. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant protein standard for assay development, and these antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. Optimal buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and assay conditions have not been predetermined, allowing researchers to optimize assay sensitivity and dynamic range based on their specific sample type and experimental requirements. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

Feline Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGF-A) is a member of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family, which includes VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, and placental growth factor (PlGF)—key regulators of angiogenesis and vascular development. In cats (Felis catus), VEGF-A is produced by a variety of cells including endothelial cells, macrophages, fibroblasts, epithelial cells, and tumor cells, particularly in response to hypoxia, inflammation, or tissue injury. VEGF-A exerts its biological effects primarily through binding to VEGF receptor-1 (VEGFR-1/Flt-1) and VEGF receptor-2 (VEGFR-2/KDR) on endothelial cells, activating intracellular signaling pathways such as MAPK/ERK, PI3K/AKT, and PLCγ, which promote endothelial cell proliferation, migration, vascular permeability, and new blood vessel formation. In feline physiology, VEGF-A plays important roles in normal vascular development, wound healing, and tissue repair. Dysregulated VEGF-A expression is associated with tumor angiogenesis in feline cancers, including mammary carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and lymphoma, where increased VEGF signaling supports tumor growth and metastasis by promoting blood vessel formation. Because angiogenesis is a key process in both cancer progression and tissue regeneration, feline VEGF-A is studied in veterinary oncology, vascular biology, and regenerative medicine, contributing to understanding of angiogenic signaling and potential therapeutic targets in cats.
