  • The Ovine VEGF-A (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of ovine VEGF-A in cell culture supernatants and can also be used to measure VEGF-A in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, tissue lysates, and conditioned media, supporting a wide range of immunology, angiogenesis, and translational research applications. VEGF-A is a critical growth factor primarily produced by endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells, and it plays a central role in angiogenesis, vascular permeability, endothelial cell proliferation, and tissue repair. In sheep models, VEGF-A is widely studied in the context of wound healing, reproductive biology, cardiovascular disease, and tumor angiogenesis, where its expression reflects vascular remodeling, tissue regeneration, and pathophysiological angiogenic responses. Measurement of VEGF-A provides valuable insight into angiogenic signaling, disease progression, and therapeutic efficacy. Reported measurements of ovine VEGF-A have detected basal serum and plasma levels of approximately 20-150 pg/mL, with elevated levels-often 300-1,500 pg/mL-following tissue injury, inflammation, or tumor induction, and measurable expression has also been observed in tissue lysates and conditioned media from VEGF-A-producing cells. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant protein standard for assay development, and these antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. Optimal buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and assay conditions have not been predetermined, allowing researchers to optimize assay sensitivity and dynamic range based on their specific sample type and experimental requirements. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

  • Ovine Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGF-A) is a member of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family, which includes VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, and placental growth factor (PlGF)-key regulators of angiogenesis, vascular permeability, and endothelial cell growth. In sheep (Ovis aries), VEGF-A is produced by a variety of cell types including endothelial cells, macrophages, fibroblasts, epithelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and trophoblast cells, particularly in response to hypoxia, inflammation, and tissue injury. VEGF-A exerts its biological effects primarily through binding to VEGF receptor-1 (VEGFR-1/Flt-1) and VEGF receptor-2 (VEGFR-2/KDR) on endothelial cells, activating intracellular signaling pathways such as MAPK/ERK, PI3K/AKT, and PLCγ, which promote endothelial cell proliferation, migration, vascular permeability, and formation of new blood vessels. In ovine physiology, VEGF-A plays important roles in placental vascular development, reproductive function, fetal growth, and tissue repair, supporting the formation of an adequate maternal-fetal blood supply during pregnancy. VEGF-A is also involved in wound healing and vascular remodeling following tissue injury. Because sheep are widely used as large-animal models for cardiovascular physiology, placental biology, and fetal development, ovine VEGF-A is studied in research on angiogenesis, reproductive biology, and vascular regulation, providing insights relevant to both livestock health and translational biomedical research.
