  • The Dolphin IL-1RA (Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of IL-1RA in cell culture supernatants from dolphins and can also be used to measure IL-1RA in a wide variety of biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, whole blood, cerebrospinal fluid, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and tissue lysates from organs such as lung, liver, spleen, and lymph nodes, supporting a broad range of immunology, inflammation, and translational research applications. IL-1RA is an anti-inflammatory cytokine primarily produced by monocytes, macrophages, and epithelial cells, and it plays a central role in modulating immune responses by competitively inhibiting IL-1α and IL-1β signaling, thereby reducing inflammation and tissue damage. In the dolphin model, IL-1RA is widely studied in the context of infectious diseases, systemic inflammation, and tissue injury, where its expression reflects the regulation of immune responses and the resolution of inflammatory processes. Measurement of IL-1RA provides valuable insight into immune regulation, disease progression, and the efficacy of immunomodulatory therapies. Reported measurements of dolphin IL-1RA have detected basal serum and plasma levels of approximately 50-400 pg/mL, with elevated levels-often 500-2,500 pg/mL-following immune stimulation, infection, or inflammatory challenge, and measurable expression has also been observed in tissue lysates from inflamed or immune-activated organs. Dolphin Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1Ra) is an anti-inflammatory cytokine produced by monocytes, macrophages, and other immune cells in dolphins, particularly the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), where it functions as a key regulator of IL-1–mediated inflammatory responses.
