  • The Rabbit VEGF-A (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of VEGF-A in cell culture supernatants from rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and can also be used to measure VEGF-A in a variety of biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, whole blood, and tissue lysates from organs such as lung, liver, kidney, and retina. While the kit is optimized for cell culture supernatants, minor modifications to the protocol may be required when measuring VEGF-A in other sample types to ensure optimal sensitivity and accuracy, allowing researchers to adjust buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and other assay conditions as needed. VEGF-A is a growth factor primarily produced by endothelial cells, macrophages, and fibroblasts, and it plays a central role in angiogenesis, vascular permeability, tissue repair, and endothelial cell proliferation. In the rabbit animal model, VEGF-A is widely studied in the context of wound healing, ocular research, cardiovascular studies, and tumor angiogenesis, where its expression reflects angiogenic activity and vascular remodeling. Measurement of VEGF-A provides valuable insight into angiogenesis, tissue regeneration, disease progression, and the efficacy of therapeutic interventions, with reported levels in rabbits typically detected at low nanogram-per-milliliter concentrations under basal conditions (~0.1-2 ng/mL in serum or plasma) and increasing during vascular growth, tissue injury, or pathological angiogenesis, depending on sample type and experimental context. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant rabbit VEGF-A (121 aa) protein standard for assay development, and these antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

Rabbit Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGF-A) is a member of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family, which includes VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, and placental growth factor (PlGF)—key regulators of angiogenesis, vascular permeability, and endothelial cell growth. In rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus), VEGF-A is produced by various cell types including endothelial cells, macrophages, fibroblasts, epithelial cells, and smooth muscle cells, particularly in response to hypoxia, inflammation, and tissue injury. VEGF-A exerts its biological effects primarily through binding to VEGF receptor-1 (VEGFR-1/Flt-1) and VEGF receptor-2 (VEGFR-2/KDR) on endothelial cells, activating intracellular signaling pathways such as MAPK/ERK, PI3K/AKT, and PLCγ, which promote endothelial cell proliferation, migration, vascular permeability, and formation of new blood vessels. In rabbits, VEGF-A plays important roles in vascular development, wound healing, and tissue regeneration, and it is also involved in placental vascularization and reproductive physiology. Because rabbits are widely used as experimental models in ophthalmology, cardiovascular research, and regenerative medicine, rabbit VEGF-A has been extensively studied in models of corneal neovascularization, retinal vascular disease, ischemic injury, and tissue repair, providing insights into angiogenesis and therapeutic strategies targeting VEGF signaling.
