  • The Caprine VEGF-A (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of VEGF-A in cell culture supernatants from goats (Capra hircus) and can also be used to measure VEGF-A in a variety of biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, whole blood, and tissue lysates from organs such as placenta, lung, kidney, liver, and mammary tissue. While the kit is optimized for cell culture supernatants, minor modifications to the protocol may be required when measuring VEGF-A in other sample types to ensure optimal sensitivity and accuracy, allowing researchers to adjust buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and other assay conditions as needed. VEGF-A is a key angiogenic growth factor produced by endothelial cells, macrophages, fibroblasts, and epithelial cells and plays a central role in angiogenesis, vascular permeability, endothelial cell proliferation, and tissue remodeling. In the caprine animal model, VEGF-A is widely studied in the context of reproductive biology, placental development, mammary gland physiology, wound healing, and inflammatory disease, where vascular growth and remodeling are critical components of normal physiology and pathology. Measurement of VEGF-A provides valuable insight into vascular biology, tissue repair, reproductive function, and disease progression, with reported levels in goats typically detected at low picogram-per-milliliter concentrations under basal conditions (~20-200 pg/mL in serum or plasma) and increasing during pregnancy, lactation, tissue injury, inflammation, or hypoxic stress, depending on sample type and experimental context. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant caprine VEGF-A protein standard for assay development, and these antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard. The quantities of kit components are not matched, and individual components may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only and is manufactured in the USA.

Caprine Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGF-A) is a member of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family, which includes VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, and placental growth factor (PlGF)—key regulators of angiogenesis, vascular development, and endothelial cell function. In goats (Capra hircus), VEGF-A is produced by multiple cell types including endothelial cells, macrophages, fibroblasts, epithelial cells, and trophoblast cells, particularly in response to hypoxia, inflammation, or tissue injury. VEGF-A exerts its biological effects primarily through binding to VEGF receptor-1 (VEGFR-1/Flt-1) and VEGF receptor-2 (VEGFR-2/KDR) on endothelial cells, activating intracellular signaling pathways such as MAPK/ERK, PI3K/AKT, and PLCγ, which promote endothelial cell proliferation, migration, vascular permeability, and formation of new blood vessels. In caprine physiology, VEGF-A plays important roles in placental vascular development, reproductive function, mammary gland growth, and tissue repair. It is particularly important during pregnancy and placentation, where VEGF-mediated angiogenesis supports maternal–fetal blood supply and nutrient exchange. VEGF-A also contributes to wound healing and inflammatory responses through regulation of vascular remodeling and tissue regeneration. Because angiogenesis is essential for reproductive efficiency, fetal development, and mammary gland function in goats, caprine VEGF-A is studied in reproductive biology, placental development, vascular physiology, and livestock health research.
