  • The Ferret CCL2 (MCP-1) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), in ferret (Mustela putorius furo) cell culture supernatants and can also be used to measure CCL2 in additional biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, and tissue lysates, with minor protocol modifications recommended to optimize performance across different matrices. CCL2 is a pro-inflammatory chemokine produced by monocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and epithelial cells in response to inflammatory cytokines, viral infection, and tissue injury, and it functions primarily through the CCR2 receptor to recruit monocytes, memory T cells, and dendritic cells to sites of inflammation. In healthy ferrets, circulating CCL2 levels are typically low or near the limit of detection (often <10-20 pg/mL in serum or plasma), but concentrations can increase to tens, hundreds, or higher pg/mL during acute viral infections, respiratory disease, systemic inflammation, or experimental immune stimulation, depending on disease severity and timing of sampling. In translational and infectious disease research, particularly in ferret respiratory virus models such as influenza and coronaviruses, CCL2 serves as an important biomarker of monocyte recruitment, innate immune activation, and inflammatory disease progression. The ELISA kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant ferret CCL2 protein standard validated for use together in an ELISA format; kit components are not supplied in matched quantities and may be purchased separately. This product is for research use only, not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and is manufactured in the USA.

Ferret CCL2 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 2, also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, MCP-1) is a pro-inflammatory chemokine that plays a key role in recruitment and activation of monocytes, macrophages, and memory T cells during immune responses in ferrets (Mustela putorius furo). CCL2 signals primarily through the CCR2 receptor, activating intracellular signaling pathways that promote leukocyte migration, cytokine production, and coordination of innate and adaptive immune responses at sites of infection, inflammation, or tissue injury. In ferret health and research, CCL2 is particularly relevant in respiratory viral infection models, including influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2, where it contributes to recruitment of monocytes and macrophages to the lungs and influences the development of pulmonary inflammation and immune-mediated tissue damage. While CCL2-driven immune cell trafficking supports antiviral defense and tissue repair, excessive or prolonged expression can contribute to cytokine-mediated lung pathology. Because ferrets are widely used as translational models for human respiratory disease and viral transmission, characterization of ferret CCL2 supports studies of chemokine-mediated immune cell recruitment, host–pathogen interactions, and inflammatory mechanisms relevant to human respiratory infections and immune-mediated lung disease.
