  • The Ferret CCL2 ELISpot assay is designed to evaluate CCL2-secreting cells by sensitively detecting and quantifying low-frequency chemokine-producing cells at the single-cell level. CCL2, also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), is a chemokine that plays a key role in recruiting monocytes, macrophages, and other immune cells to sites of inflammation through interaction with the CCR2 receptor. In ferrets, CCL2 is involved in the regulation of inflammatory responses during viral infection and tissue injury. Measurement of CCL2 is particularly important in ferret research because ferrets are widely used as translational models for human respiratory diseases such as influenza and SARS-CoV-2, where monocyte and macrophage recruitment contribute to immune defense and disease pathogenesis. This assay enables researchers to quantify CCL2-producing cells to better understand chemokine-driven immune cell recruitment and inflammatory responses. The Ferret CCL2 ELISpot kit contains a Capture Antibody, Detection Antibody, and Standard Control sufficient for the development of up to two (2) ELISpot assays. The included antibodies have been validated for performance in an ELISpot assay using the provided Standard Control. Additional materials and reagents required to complete the assay are not included. Individual components may also be purchased separately. Made in the USA. For research use only.

Ferret CCL2 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 2, also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, MCP-1) is a pro-inflammatory chemokine that plays a key role in recruitment and activation of monocytes, macrophages, and memory T cells during immune responses in ferrets (Mustela putorius furo). CCL2 signals primarily through the CCR2 receptor, activating intracellular signaling pathways that promote leukocyte migration, cytokine production, and coordination of innate and adaptive immune responses at sites of infection, inflammation, or tissue injury. In ferret health and research, CCL2 is particularly relevant in respiratory viral infection models, including influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2, where it contributes to recruitment of monocytes and macrophages to the lungs and influences the development of pulmonary inflammation and immune-mediated tissue damage. While CCL2-driven immune cell trafficking supports antiviral defense and tissue repair, excessive or prolonged expression can contribute to cytokine-mediated lung pathology. Because ferrets are widely used as translational models for human respiratory disease and viral transmission, characterization of ferret CCL2 supports studies of chemokine-mediated immune cell recruitment, host–pathogen interactions, and inflammatory mechanisms relevant to human respiratory infections and immune-mediated lung disease.
